Overview of Smart Protect Goal
The Bajaj Life Smart Protect Goal was a discontinued term insurance plan known for its affordability and flexible payment options. It offered coverage up to age 99 and came in two variants: Regular Term Cover and Return of Premium (ROP). Policyholders could choose from regular, limited, or single premium modes, and add an optional Critical Illness rider covering 55 illnesses, with payouts deducted from the base sum assured. The plan did not offer riders for Accidental Death Benefit, Accidental Total and Permanent Disability (ATPD), or Waiver of Premium.

Smart Protect Goal’s flexibility in payment modes and optional critical illness coverage gave it appeal for buyers seeking a straightforward term plan. The ROP option refunded premiums (excluding taxes) if the policyholder survived the term, though higher costs often reduced its value. Whole life coverage up to age 99 made it relevant for legacy planning.
Limitations included the inability to change chosen options mid-term, significantly higher premiums for ROP and whole life variants, and the absence of popular riders such as ADB, ATPD, and Waiver of Premium. While competitive during its run, it has since been outclassed by Bajaj Life’s e-Touch II, which offers broader rider choices and better pricing for today’s customers.
Pros
Bajaj Life has a solid track record with a good CSR, minimal complaints, and high solvency ratio.
Includes certain health management services
Offers Return of premium option.
Cons
The plan is not very feature rich. Lacks a wide range of features.
The plan lacks essential features like terminal illness, cover increase, premium waiver , and disability or accidental death benefits.

Features of Smart Protect Goal
Critical Illness
If you're ever diagnosed with a critical illness, you would want your insurance policy to pay a fixed sum that can help you deal with any monetary obligations and financially support your needs during treatment. Smart Protect Goal extends critical illness benefit without too many restrictions and pays up to ₹50 Lakhs so long as you are diagnosed with one of the 55 illnesses listed in the policy brochure.
Accidental Death Benefit
Some policies offer you the option of adding extra protection for accidental deaths. Smart Protect Goal does not offer accidental death benefit. In any case, we recommend customers choose a comprehensive cover without worrying about the specifics of death. So this isn't a big miss.
Return of Premium
Some policies return your premium after the policy matures if you don't make a claim. However, we don't recommend this option actively considering the option can be expensive. In any case, Smart Protect Goal extends this option to those considering it.
Add-ons of Smart Protect Goal
Critical Illness Benefit
Includes the critical illness cover. In case of diagnosis of any of the listed CI, lumpsum payout is made.

Suicides are not covered in the first year.
Death due to intoxication.
If the nominee is involved in the death of the policyholder, that would not be covered.
