Prudential Health is a new entrant in India’s health insurance market, and Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature is its strongest offering among the four PRUHealth plans on paper.

Since the insurer is new, factors like claims experience, policy terms, restoration benefits, waiting periods, and exclusions matter when evaluating the plan.

In this Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature review, we break down its coverage, key features and riders, sample premiums, limitations, and Prudential Health India’s available performance metrics to see where the plan fits.

What Is the Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature Plan?

PRUHealth Signature is Prudential Health India’s feature-rich health insurance plan, with base sum insured options ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹2 crore. It is available on both an individual and family floater basis.

Ditto's Take

Hospital Essentials Cover and Day 1 Instant Increase of Cover can add practical value by improving your usable coverage and reducing eligible out-of-pocket expenses. Chronic Care QuickStart and Child Protect can also be useful depending on your circumstances. However, we wouldn’t recommend adding every optional benefit just because it is available. Consider the benefits that address your specific needs and ensure the additional premium is justified by the coverage offered.

Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature Plan: Sample Premiums

ProfilesBase Premium
(Individual Plan): Age 25₹14,394
(Family Floater, 2A): Ages (31, 32)₹22,061
(Family Floater, 2A 1C): Ages (36, 35, 5)₹27,330
(Family Floater, 2A): Ages (62, 63)₹86,349

Note: A stands for adult and C stands for child. These are first-year premiums for a ₹15 lakh sum insured, calculated for healthy individuals residing in Zone 1, including the Hospital Essentials add-on. The numbers are indicative and can vary by age, location, medical history, add-ons selected, and family structure.

You can also use Prudential’s premium calculator to customize and check your premium.

Premium Insight: PRUHealth Signature is reasonably priced considering the features it offers, including 2X restoration from day one, higher room eligibility, loyalty additions, and enhanced health benefits. The premiums increase with age and family size, but the plan’s broader coverage features make it a more comprehensive option within the PRUHealth range.

Renewal, Portability, and Exclusions Under Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature Plan

Renewal and Portability

PRUHealth Signature offers lifelong renewability, with no maximum age limit for continuing coverage. Renewal premiums can increase due to medical inflation, insurer-wide repricing, or as insured members get older. For a family floater, pricing considers the age of the eldest insured member.

    • Migration: You can switch from PRUHealth Signature to another eligible Prudential Health policy while retaining applicable continuity credits, including credits for waiting periods and the moratorium period. The migration request should generally be made at least 30 days before renewal.
    • Portability: You can also transfer the policy to another insurer. You should generally make the portability request 30 to 60 days before the renewal date. Subject to continuous coverage without a break, applicable credits for the sum insured, waiting periods, and the moratorium period can be carried forward.

This allows you to change your Prudential plan or move to another insurer while retaining eligible continuity benefits accumulated under your existing policy.

Exclusions Under Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature Plan

PRUHealth Signature has certain exclusions under its base policy. Key exclusions include:

    • Cosmetic or Plastic Surgery: Excluded unless medically necessary due to an accident, burns, or cancer, or to address a direct and immediate health risk.
    • Hazardous or Adventure Sports: Treatment due to professional participation in activities such as mountaineering, rafting, motor racing, scuba diving, or skydiving is excluded. Recreational use is subject to policy terms.
    • Maternity and Infertility: Maternity, infertility treatment, contraception, sterilization, and assisted reproductive treatments are excluded unless covered by an optional benefit.
    • Change-of-Gender Treatments: Treatment or surgery to change the body’s characteristics to those of the opposite sex is excluded.
    • Outpatient Treatment: Treatment not requiring hospitalization is excluded unless specifically covered by an optional benefit. Listed wellness and consultation benefits are available as per policy terms.
    • Treatment Outside India: Treatment received outside India is excluded unless specifically covered under the policy terms.

These are some key exclusions. For the complete list and applicable conditions, refer to the PRUHealth Signature policy wording.

Prudential Health India: Performance Metrics

Prudential Health Insurance India is still too new to have a meaningful performance track record. Since the insurer only recently commenced operations, comparable metrics such as the Claim Settlement Ratio (CSR), Incurred Claims Ratio (ICR), and complaint data are not yet available. This is a normal limitation for a new insurer. It simply means there isn't enough claims history yet to assess Prudential the way we can evaluate established insurers such as Care Health Insurance or HDFC ERGO, which have several years of claims and service data available.

Prudential currently reports 12,000+ network hospitals across India. That's a sizeable network, but hospital count alone does not tell us how smoothly cashless claims will be handled in practice.

For now, Prudential's promoter backing, product design, and hospital network are useful early signals, but they cannot substitute for an actual claims track record. At Ditto, we'd prefer to watch how the insurer performs over the next few years. For comparable data on established insurers, explore the Ditto Data Lab.

Pros and Cons of Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature

ProsCons
Signature offers coverage up to ₹2 crore, providing substantial protection against high hospitalization costs. Choosing a suite room can lead to proportionate deductions on associated claim expenses.
The restoration benefit provides 2X coverage from Day 1 and restores 100% of the base sum insured unlimited times in a policy year. Signature is priced higher than Prudential Health India’s other plans.
The Loyalty Addition increases the base sum insured by 100% every year, up to 500%, regardless of claims. Prudential Health India has only recently commenced operations, so it does not yet have enough claims, ICR, CSR, or complaint history to assess its long-term performance.
Signature offers 90 days of pre-hospitalization cover, compared with 30 or 60 days under other Prudential Health plans. -

Conclusion

On paper, Signature stands out as the most feature-rich option in Prudential Health India’s lineup. It combines broad room eligibility, restoration from the first claim, and a 100% annual Loyalty Addition that can build up to 500% of the base sum insured. The plan could appeal to those willing to pay a higher premium for more extensive built-in coverage.

That said, Prudential Health India is still a new insurer, so limited claims and service data exist to evaluate its long-term performance. If you’re considering Signature alongside other policies, our guide to the best health insurance plans in India can help you explore other options.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 2X protection from day one mean under Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature?

PRUHealth Signature offers 2X protection from day one through its restoration benefit. However, this does not mean the base sum insured doubles upfront. The plan restores 100% of the base sum insured after the first claim, and you can use the restored amount for subsequent claims during the policy year, subject to policy terms. You can use this restoration an unlimited number of times for any illness.

Does Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature Plan Offer ₹2 Crore Sum Insured?

Yes. PRUHealth Signature offers base sum insured options ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹2 crore. This lets policyholders choose a higher level of coverage based on their needs. The plan is available on both an individual and family floater basis.

Is the 2 crore sum insured under Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature available for a family floater policy?

Yes. PRUHealth Signature is available as both an individual policy and a family floater policy, and its base sum insured options extend up to ₹2 crore. The family floater can cover eligible family members under the policy structure specified by Prudential Health India. The available coverage, eligibility, and applicable conditions depend on the policy terms and the members included in the family floater.

How does the Loyalty Addition Plus add-on increase my Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature cover on renewal?

We truly believe financial information should be made accessible to people free of cost. And we will go to extreme lengths to make that dream a reality.

The Loyalty Addition Plus add-on adds 100% of the base sum insured every year, irrespective of whether you have made claims. Based on the policy documents, the accumulated Loyalty Addition Plus can reach up to 1,000% of the base sum insured. This is separate from the base plan's Loyalty Addition, which increases the base sum insured by 100% each year up to 500%.

Does Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature cover 90 days of pre-hospitalization expenses?

Yes. PRUHealth Signature covers eligible medical expenses incurred during the 90 days before hospitalization. It also provides post-hospitalization coverage for up to 180 days after discharge. The expenses must meet the policy's coverage conditions to qualify for reimbursement. The 90-day pre-hospitalization period is longer than the 60 days specified under some of Prudential Health India's other plans.

Is Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature worth the higher premium compared with PRUHealth Edge?

PRUHealth Signature is priced higher than Prudential Health India's other plans, including PRUHealth Edge. In return, it offers features such as coverage up to ₹2 crore, unlimited restoration of 100% of the base sum insured, and a 100% annual Loyalty Addition up to 500%. Whether the additional premium suits your requirements depends on the coverage and features you need.

Does the Chronic Management Program under Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature give cashless access to diabetes consultations?

Yes. The Chronic Management Program is an optional benefit that provides a fixed number of doctor consultations and diagnostic tests through Prudential Health India's empaneled service providers. These services are available only through the cashless facility during the policy year, as specified in the policy schedule. The program covers conditions including Diabetes Mellitus, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Obesity, and Asthma, subject to the applicable conditions and limits under the policy.

Can I cover my parents above 60 under a Prudential Health PRUHealth Signature family floater?

No. Parents cannot be included in the same PRUHealth Signature family floater as you. The floater covers self, spouse, and eligible dependent children. Parents would require separate coverage based on their eligibility and health conditions. Prudential’s current online purchase journey also lists parent coverage as “Coming soon,” so check the latest availability before proceeding.
