Overview

The Aditya Birla Activ Yuva plan is a specialized wellness-first health insurance policy designed for young adults (18-45). The plan offers highly customizable benefits, unlimited sum insured options, and allows customers to get back up to 100%  of premiums for maintaining healthy habits such as proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep.

The plan is backed by Aditya Birla’s 95.81% average Claim Settlement Ratio (CSR) for FY 2022-25. A 25-year-old in Delhi, for example, pays roughly ₹11,750 per year for a ₹25 lakh cover.

This guide is for first-time buyers or existing Aditya Birla customers looking to compare the newly launched Activ Yuva plan with their current policy.

Most young adults skip health insurance. Because of one simple reason: it doesn't feel worth it. You're healthy, you rarely visit a doctor, and the idea of paying thousands a year for something you may never use doesn't make a lot of sense.

Activ Yuva is Aditya Birla's attempt to change this mindset. It is a health insurance for young adults in India. Instead of a plan where you pay for something that might never happen, this one gives you something back every year. A rewards program that refunds up to 100% of your premium if you stay active.

This is not a gimmick. It is a structural change to make health insurance feel useful, even for young adults.

In this article, we break down the major features, flag the fine print, share the premiums, and tell you who this plan is suitable for.

The main Activ Yuva plan features are built around higher cover, shorter hospitalization requirements, wellness-linked rewards, and add-ons for OPD and maternity. Let’s look into the features in detail.

Flagship Features of the Activ Yuva Plan

1) Unlimited Sum Insured

Most plans cap your cover at ₹1 or ₹2 crore. Activ Yuva goes further by offering unlimited coverage, meaning there's no ceiling on what the insurer will pay for a single claim. This comes in handy for critical illnesses or complex surgeries where final bills are hard to predict.

2) 2-Hour Hospitalization Threshold

The industry standard for hospitalization coverage is 24 hours. Activ Yuva requires just 2 consecutive hours. This matters because many treatments, such as Intravenous (IV) infusions or short-duration procedures, don't require an overnight stay but still cost real money. With this rule, even those claims qualify.

3) HealthReturns: Get Paid for Staying Active

The Aditya Birla HealthReturns program lets policyholders earn health credits by tracking activity, meals, sleep, and other wellness habits. HealthReturns is a unique feature of the new-age Aditya Birla plans. Stay active and earn back up to 100% of your annual base premium as a spendable health credit. Monthly rewards can be used for renewal discounts, Outpatient Department (OPD) bills, gym memberships, and wearables. It genuinely pays off for users who engage with it consistently.

4) FitForward

You get monthly top-ups that increase your HealthReturns earnings beyond the base grid. Here’s how it works:

    • EAT: Log 2 meals a day for 21 days in a month and get a 10% booster on that month's earnings.
    • HEAL: Sleep 7 to 8 hours for 21 days via a linked wearable and earn a 15% booster.
    • MOVE: If you average 7,500 to 9,999 steps or burn 250+ calories on days you couldn't earn Active Dayz, you get 4 bonus Active Dayz for that month, though this only applies if you've earned fewer than 23 Active Dayz that month.

5) ON/OFF Feature for International Travelers

If you’re traveling abroad for 15 to 90 days, you can switch off your domestic coverage during that period and earn TravelCredits of up to 15% of your base premium as a renewal discount. Waiting periods continue to accrue during the OFF period, and the feature applies only to adults on the policy.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Buying the Activ Yuva Plan

What Works

    • The 2-hour hospitalization threshold covers short procedures that a 24-hour rule would reject.
    • Yuva Credit (bonus) stacks every year, even if you've made a claim that year.
    • Yuva Reload gives 2x cover from day 1.

What to Watch Out For

    • No claims track record yet, meaning real-world settlement behavior and premium stability remain untested.
    • HealthReturns isn't passive; you need to actively track steps, sleep, and meals to earn the full benefit.
    • The ON/OFF feature doesn't unlock international hospitalization, which means overseas emergencies aren't covered under the base plan.

Ditto's Verdict on the Aditya Birla Activ Yuva Plan

A few things to keep in mind:

    • Activ Yuva is a newer plan. Pricing stability, claims processing under the 2-hour clause, and real-world payout behavior are still untested.
    • HealthReturns is valuable, but only if you actually use it. If you're not someone who will consistently track steps, sleep, and meals on an app, budget for the premium without the rewards assumption.
    • It's not the right plan for families with senior parents. The plan's design is youth-centric. For anyone over 40 or anyone with PEDs who needs immediate coverage, Activ One Max remains the tried-and-tested choice.
    • It may also suit young couples who are actively comparing the Activ Yuva OPD and maternity cover with other options, but only if they are comfortable with the waiting periods and add-on costs.

If you're between 18 and 45, buying health insurance for the first time, and you're genuinely active or plan to be, Activ Yuva is worth considering. But if you'd rather go with something that has an established claims track record, our best health insurance plans guide is a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Aditya Birla Health Insurance's claim settlement ratio?

Aditya Birla Health Insurance has an average claim settlement ratio of 95.81% over the three financial years from 2022 to 2025. This means roughly 96 out of every 100 claims filed during this period were settled. The Incurred Claims Ratio (ICR) stands at 68.16%, which is within a healthy range for a standalone health insurer, and the complaint volume is 18.67 per 10,000 claims. At Ditto, we look at three-year averages rather than single-year figures to avoid being misled by outlier years.

Should I buy the Activ Yuva plan or wait for it to have a claims track record?

Activ Yuva is a newly launched product, which means its real-world claims experience, premium stability at renewal, and processing under the 2-hour hospitalization clause are still untested. At Ditto, we currently recommend Activ One Max as the tried-and-tested choice. Activ Yuva is worth tracking closely, especially for active buyers seeking a no-restriction plan with long-term growth built in, but buying it today means accepting some early-stage uncertainty.

Are consumables covered under the Activ Yuva plan?

Yes, consumables or non-payable items are covered as part of the Activ Yuva plan at no additional cost. This includes all four lists of IRDAI Annexure I non-medical expenses, covering over 140 items such as gloves, masks, crepe bandages, and similar hospital supplies that are typically excluded from other policies. In large claims, these consumables can run into tens of thousands of rupees. Most competing plans either exclude these entirely or offer consumable cover as a paid add-on.

How does Activ Yuva compare to Activ Fit Preferred?

The biggest structural difference is the no-claim bonus. Activ Fit Preferred caps your bonus at 200% of your base sum insured. Activ Yuva stacks it to 1000% over 10 renewals regardless of claims. On a ₹10 lakh base plan, that is the difference between ₹30 lakh and ₹1.1 crore in total cover by year 10. Activ Yuva also offers an unlimited sum insured option, a 2-hour hospitalization threshold, in-built consumables cover, worldwide maternity coverage, and the ON/OFF travel feature, none of which are available in Activ Fit Preferred.

What is Yuva Reload, and how does it work?

Yuva Reload is the restoration feature in the Activ Yuva plan. For your very first claim ever on the policy, it doubles your sum insured from day one. So a ₹10 lakh plan effectively gives you ₹20 lakh in coverage from the moment your very first claim is filed. For all subsequent claims, it refills 100% of your base sum insured each time, for both related and unrelated illnesses, with no limit on the number of refills per year. This protects you against large claims, especially in the early years before your Yuva Credit has had time to build up.

What discounts are available in the Activ Yuva plan?

Families can benefit from a 25% discount for enrolling two or more members, while long-term commitments offer discounts between 7.5% and 15% for tenures up to five years. Policyholders may also access a 10% discount for Aditya Birla Group (ABG) affiliations or a 5% credit for existing corporate Group Medical Coverage (GMC). Additionally, healthy applicants can secure an Upfront Good Health discount of up to 25%, with further savings available via auto-debit renewals and direct purchase options. Always check with your advisor about which discounts are actually live and available.

What are the Activ Yuva premium zones?

Aditya Birla categorizes premiums into three geographic zones. Zone 1 includes Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Gujarat, and more, while Zone 2 covers major metros such as Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune. Zone 3 encompasses the rest of India. Importantly, the Activ Yuva plan does not impose a zonal copayment, meaning you will not be penalized for seeking treatment in a higher-cost zone regardless of where you bought the policy. At Ditto, we always advise informing your insurer of any change of location to reduce hassle at the time of a claim.

How many hospitals are in the Aditya Birla network?

Aditya Birla Health Insurance has a robust network of over 12,000 hospitals across India. This extensive network is crucial to the Activ Yuva plan, especially since features such as Home Health Care and the Yuva Health Check-up are provided exclusively on a cashless basis through these providers. At Ditto, we look at operational performance, such as their 95.81% claim settlement ratio and 68.16% incurred claim ratio, to evaluate insurer reliability. Having a large network ensures that policyholders can easily find quality care, whether they are in major metros or smaller tier 2 cities.
