Key Features and Coverage of Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan

    • Death Benefit: If the life insured dies while the policy is active and within the policy term, the nominee receives the applicable sum assured, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
    • Increasing Life Cover: You can increase the sum assured twice during the policy term, by either 25% or 50% each time at an additional cost. The first increase happens after the 5th policy year and the second after the 10th year. You must choose the increase rate when buying the policy.
    • Life Stage Cover Enhancement: You can increase the base sum assured twice after specified life events by paying an additional premium. The increase can be 25% or 50%, without fresh medical underwriting, subject to a maximum overall increase of 100% or ₹1 crore, whichever is lower.
    • Spouse Cover: You can add life cover for your spouse, with a sum assured between ₹20 lakh and ₹50 lakh, subject to a maximum of 50% of the primary life cover. The spouse cover activates only after the primary life insured's death. The maximum permitted age difference between the policyholder and spouse is 10 years.
    • Smart Exit: You can exit the policy between attained ages 60 and 65 and receive the total premiums paid, including premiums for eligible spouse and life-stage cover, plus any underwriting extra premiums paid (excluding rider premiums). This option is available only within the specified age window and subject to policy conditions.

Note: The spouse cover is not a substitute for separate term insurance. Since it activates only after the primary insured's death, we recommend that both spouses consider individual term insurance policies to ensure each person is independently protected.

Riders and Add-Ons Available With Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan

    • Accidental Death Benefit: Provides an additional lump sum payout if the life insured dies due to a qualifying accident within 180 days. The claim is subject to the rider's accident-related conditions and exclusions.
    • Accidental Total and Permanent Disability: Pays a lump sum if the life insured suffers a qualifying accidental total and permanent disability. Claims are payable only when the accident occurs while the rider cover is active, and the resulting disability must continue uninterrupted for at least 180 days.
    • Critical Illness: Provides a lump sum benefit when the life insured is diagnosed with a covered critical illness. The rider covers 32 specified conditions and requires a 30-day survival period and a 90-day waiting period.
    • Waiver of Premium: Future premiums are waived upon the earlier occurrence of accidental total and permanent disability or diagnosis of any of the 32 listed critical illnesses or conditions, subject to the rider and base policy remaining in force and applicable terms. Check the exact trigger, eligibility requirements, and exclusions carefully before selecting the rider.

Note: When comparing riders, at Ditto, we recommend considering the critical illness and waiver of premium rider. The two riders address real-life protection and provide value for your money.

35₹38,430₹26,154₹31,118₹26,030

Key Insight: Premiums are higher than plans from established insurers like Axis Max Life and ICICI Prudential. Pramerica’s higher premiums can partly reflect its mortality assumptions and the profit margin buffer built into pricing.

Larger insurers may benefit from greater scale, allowing them to maintain different pricing assumptions and risk buffers. If you are looking for more comprehensive protection and affordable premiums, established insurers offer a wider selection of features and customization options.

Cons of Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan

Background Image

01

Spouse Cover Can Be Misunderstood

The spouse's cover activates only after the primary life insured dies. It will not trigger if the spouse has already attained age 60 at that time, if the spouse predeceases the primary insured, or if both lives die simultaneously or from the same event.

02

Cover Increases have Limits

Increasing Cover is not automatically linked to inflation and comes with specific timing and eligibility conditions.

03

Smart Exit has Restrictions

The feature is available only within a specific age window, so it may not provide the flexibility some buyers expect. The feature depends on the opted PPT.

04

Lacks Some Modern Built-in Features

The plan does not offer features increasingly seen in newer term plans, such as auto cover continuance or health and wellness benefits.

Conclusion

From a features standpoint, RockSolid offers useful protection and flexibility. However, it misses several modern features such as premium breaks and instant partial claim payouts, which may make it less attractive for buyers seeking a more feature-rich term insurance plan.

The insurer's scale is another consideration. Pramerica Life falls below our ₹5,000 crore annual business-volume benchmark, limiting its scale compared with larger insurers. Its complaint levels are also around 2 times the industry median based on the metrics considered, making customer experience an important factor in the evaluation.

If insurer strength, scale, and customer experience are priorities, it may be worth comparing RockSolid with established players. You can explore the best term insurance plans from insurers such as Axis Max Life before making a decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan worth buying compared with larger term plans?

RockSolid can be worth considering if its post-underwriting premium and features compare favorably with larger insurers. It offers flexible premium payments, payout options, life-stage enhancements, smart exit, and multiple riders. However, compare it against larger insurers on financial strength, claims experience, complaints, underwriting, and policy terms rather than choosing features alone.

Is Pramerica Life Insurance a government company or a private one?

Pramerica Life Insurance is a private-sector life insurer. Whether Pramerica Life Insurance is govt or private depends on the ownership and control structure. It is a joint venture involving DHFL Investments Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Piramal Finance, and Prudential International Insurance Holdings, a subsidiary of Prudential Financial, Inc. The insurer has operated in India since September 2008.

Why is Pramerica Life Insurance still sometimes called DHFL Pramerica?

Pramerica Life Insurance Limited was previously known as DHFL Pramerica Life Insurance Company Limited, so the older name may still appear in legacy documents and online references. The insurer was rebranded in 2021 and now operates under its current name. When reviewing older policies or documents, check the IRDAI registration number 140 and the policy UIN to avoid confusion.

Where does Pramerica rank among term insurance companies in India?

There is no official Pramerica Life Insurance ranking in India. It is smaller than some of India's large private life insurers, such as HDFC Life and Axis Max Life. Its 125-branch network and ₹11,393.83 crore AUM also indicate an established, though smaller, insurer. However, it does not make our list of the best term insurance companies

What do customer reviews say about the Pramerica term insurance claim experience?

Customer discussions around Pramerica’s claim experience appear relatively limited online, so it is difficult to draw a strong conclusion from social platforms alone. Some customer feedback mentions responsive service and reasonably smooth claim handling, while experiences can vary.

Can NRIs buy the Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan from outside India?

NRIs may be eligible for Indian life insurance, but RockSolid's public product page does not establish a blanket NRI eligibility rule for purchasing the plan from every country. Eligibility can depend on residency, country, documentation, underwriting, and the insurer's NRI process. An NRI should confirm availability directly with Pramerica before applying.

What is the minimum sum assured available under the Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan?

The minimum sum assured is ₹50 lakh. The maximum sum assured is not a fixed published amount and is instead subject to the insurer's Board-approved underwriting depending on your profile. Your actual eligible cover can therefore depend on income, age, financial profile, medical underwriting, and other factors.

Are Pramerica RockSolid Term Insurance Plan premiums eligible for tax benefits?

Yes. Term insurance premiums qualify for deductions under Section 123, previously Section 80C, under the old tax regime, subject to the ₹1.5 lakh overall limit and applicable conditions. Eligible health-related rider premiums may qualify separately under Section 126, previously Section 80D. Death benefits are generally tax-exempt under Section 11, previously Section 10(10D), subject to applicable conditions.

What life events allow you to increase your term insurance cover?

The plan allows you to increase your base sum assured after certain major life events, subject to applicable limits. You can increase your cover after marriage or buying a house by up to 50% of the base sum assured or ₹50 lakh, whichever is lower. For the first and second child (birth/legal adoption), you can increase the cover by up to 25% of the base sum assured or ₹25 lakh, whichever is lower. You must exercise the option within six months of the eligible life-stage event. You can increase the base sum assured twice, up to 100% of the original cover, capped at ₹1 crore.

What are the eligibility conditions for smart exit under RockSolid?

Smart exit is available for single pay policies with an entry age of up to 50 years, a maturity age of at least 70 years, and a policy term of 30 years or more. For regular or limited pay, the entry age must be up to 45 years, with a maturity age of at least 70 years and a policy term of 35 years or more.
