Riders Offered

    • Accidental Death Benefit Rider: Both plans offer this rider, which provides an additional payout if the life insured dies due to a qualifying accident. HDFC Life offers this via the Life Plus variant or via the Live Well rider. Consider the rider only if you have high accident exposure or travel frequently.
    • Critical Illness (CI) Rider: Both plans offer this rider, which pays a lump sum on diagnosis of any covered critical illnesses. The IndusInd Nippon Life Critical Illness rider covers 25 specified illnesses, while Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus covers up to 60 illnesses via the Health Plus rider. Both riders have a 90-day waiting period. However, HDFC Life has a 15-day survival period, while IndusInd Nippon Life requires 30 days.
    • Waiver of Premium Rider: Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus waives future premiums if the life insured is diagnosed with any of the 60 covered critical illnesses or suffers a qualifying permanent disability. The rider is available until the end of the premium payment term and has a 90-day waiting period. This rider is not available with Super Suraksha Plus.
    • Accidental Death & Disability Riders: Super Suraksha Plus offers two riders covering qualifying accidental death and total permanent disability. The Plus variant goes further by waiving future base and rider premiums after an accepted disability claim, while the regular variant does not offer this premium waiver. You can select only one accident rider.
    • Income Benefit on Accidental Disability Rider: HDFC Life Income Benefit on Accidental Disability rider pays a regular monthly income equal to 1% of the rider sum assured for 10 years if the life insured suffers total permanent disability due to an accident, subject to the rider terms.

Note: Don't add every rider to your base term plan. At Ditto, we recommend the waiver of premium and critical illness riders. They protect against living risks where a health event can stop your income while medical and household expenses continue. See the infographic for clarity.

Waiver of premium and critical illness are must-have term insurance riders, while return of premium and accidental death benefit are better avoided.

Conclusion

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus is the stronger overall choice if you want comprehensive protection, broader critical illness coverage, and built-in health management services. Its richer feature set makes it better suited for long-term financial protection.

On the other hand, IndusInd Nippon Super Suraksha Plus is simpler and can work for buyers seeking basic protection at a competitive premium. However, its feature limitations put it behind HDFC Life for most buyers. Given the recent management change, we would take a wait-and-watch approach and see how the transition plays out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is more reliable for a 30-year term policy, IndusInd Nippon Life or HDFC Life?

For a 30-year term policy, HDFC Life has the stronger reliability profile in our view. It has a larger operating scale and reported a 99.72% claim settlement ratio for FY 2025-26. IndusInd Nippon Life also offers long-term protection, but HDFC Life is preferred for overall insurer confidence.

Did Reliance Nippon Life become IndusInd Nippon Life, and does that affect existing Super Suraksha Plus policies?

Yes. Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited was renamed IndusInd Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited. This change does not alter existing Super Suraksha Plus policies. The insurer confirms that existing policies remain valid, with the same benefits, terms, conditions, policy numbers, and coverage. Policyholders do not need to purchase a new policy or resubmit any documents.

What is the difference between the Life and Life Plus variants of IndusInd Nippon Super Suraksha Plus?

The Life variant is a pure-risk option. Your policy terminates after the death benefit is paid, while surviving the term does not provide a maturity payout. Life Plus adds return of premium, paying 100% of total base premiums paid if you survive to maturity. Both variants offer life cover and flexible death-benefit payout options, subject to policy terms.

Does Super Suraksha Plus let me increase my cover at life events without fresh medical tests?

Yes. Super Suraksha Plus allows you to increase your cover at specified life milestones without additional underwriting. These milestones include your first marriage, birth or legal adoption of your first child, birth or legal adoption of your second child, and taking a home loan. The applicable increase depends on the plan’s terms and eligibility conditions.

Which plan offers a wider set of riders, Super Suraksha Plus or HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus?

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus offers a broader protection ecosystem. It provides options covering accidental death, critical illness-related premium waiver, accidental total and permanent disability based income payout, and additional family-focused benefits. Super Suraksha Plus also offers multiple riders, including critical illness and accidental death and disability plus. However, HDFC provides greater overall customization and protection depth.

Is the return of premium option in Super Suraksha Plus Life Plus worth the higher premium?

No. At Ditto, we don't recommend paying extra for the return of premium feature just to get your base premiums back. Life Plus returns 100% of premiums paid on survival, but the money does not earn investment returns within the policy. A lower-cost pure-term plan, plus investing the premium difference separately, offers better long-term financial efficiency.

How much does ₹1 crore cover cost under each plan for a 30-year-old non-smoker?

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus costs ₹13,436 annually for ₹1 crore of 35-year cover for a healthy 30-year-old non-smoking male, for cover up to age 65, excluding first-year discounts. IndusInd Nippon Super Suraksha Plus costs ₹12,538 for the same profile. Premiums depend on policy term, premium payment term, payout choice, discounts, and underwriting, so no single figure is comparable.

What are the different variants of HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus?

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus comes with three broad variants. Life provides core term cover with accelerated terminal illness protection and increasing-cover options. Life Plus adds an additional accidental death benefit to the base life cover. Life Goal offers decreasing cover, making it suitable for liabilities such as home loans where the protection requirement reduces over time.

What is the Parent Protect Care offered by HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus?

This benefit lets you split the death benefit between a lump-sum payout and regular income. You must choose the ratio at policy inception, with at least 20% allocated to regular income. Parents or grandparents can receive the regular income, while nominees with insurable interest can receive the lump sum. The income stops if the last nominee dies. It is available for 15–40-year policy terms, with the regular-income nominee aged at least 50 when the policy starts. There is no extra cost, but the benefit is unavailable with the Parent Secure option.

Are term insurance premiums under the two plans eligible for tax benefits?

Yes. Term insurance premiums may qualify for deductions under Section 123, previously Section 80C under the old tax regime, subject to the ₹1.5 lakh overall limit and applicable conditions. Eligible health-related rider premiums may qualify separately under Section 126 (previously Section 80D). Death benefits are generally tax-exempt under Section 11, regardless of the regime (previously Section 10(10D)), subject to applicable conditions and tax rules.

What discounts are available on IndusInd Nippon Super Suraksha Plus and HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus?

IndusInd Nippon Super Suraksha Plus offers a 10% first-year online discount, along with a 2%–5% salaried discount depending on the premium payment term. Eligible employees receive a 10% first-year employee discount instead. HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus offers first-year or lifetime discounts, along with discounts for female lives, high sum assured, existing customers, and eligible spouses. Discount combinations vary, so compare the final quoted premium.
