Bandhan Life iTerm Elite's insta claim benefit applies after three policy years and pays 1% of the prevailing death benefit, capped at ₹1 lakh. These payouts are advances and remain subject to the subsequent assessment of the death claim.
    • Life Stage Benefit: Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus offers a life stage benefit that allows you to increase your SA by 50% on marriage, up to ₹50 lakh, and by 25% on the birth of your first or second child, up to ₹25 lakh for each event. Under regular pay, you can exercise the benefit once during the specified one-year exit window. Both options are available provided the policy term is 30 years or more. Bandhan Life’s exit options differ by payment mode. Limited pay allows 50% exit at 55 and the balance at 65, or up to 100% at 65. Riders Available

iTerm Elite offers only an accidental death benefit rider, while Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus provides a wider range of useful riders, including critical illness, waiver of premium, and accidental disability benefits.

    • Accidental Death Benefit Rider: Both plans offer accidental death protection through their respective options or riders. HDFC Life provides this through the Life Plus variant or Live Well rider. iTerm Elite provides a lump sum benefit of up to 3 times the SA if the life assured dies due to an accident within 180 days of the incident.
    • Critical Illness (CI) Rider: HDFC Life covers up to 60 illnesses and pays a lump sum after a 90-day waiting period and a 15-day survival period.
    • Waiver of Premium Rider: HDFC Life can waive future premiums if the life insured is diagnosed with one of its 60 covered critical illnesses or suffers a qualifying permanent disability. The rider has a 90-day waiting period.
    • Income Benefit on Accidental Disability Rider: HDFC Life offers a monthly income equal to 1% of the rider sum assured for 10 years if the life insured suffers total permanent disability due to an accident, subject to rider terms.

You don't need to add every rider to your base term plan. At Ditto, we recommend the waiver of premium and critical illness riders. They cover living risks where a serious health event can disrupt your income while medical and household expenses continue.

iTerm Elite offers a Gift to Mothers benefit for eligible female policyholders after childbirth or legal adoption. You can claim it twice, with each benefit equal to 10% of eligible premiums paid, subject to policy conditions and required documentation.

Pros & Cons of Bandhan Life Insurance and HDFC Life Insurance

Pros of Bandhan Life Insurance

    • Growing Term Portfolio: Its term insurance portfolio includes iTerm Prime and the recently launched iTerm Elite, giving customers more choice across coverage needs.
    • Decent Claims Record: Bandhan Life’s CSR remains above the industry mean, indicating a strong proportion of individual death claims settled.

Cons of Bandhan Life Insurance

    • High Complaint Volume: Complaints are about 1.68× the industry median, raising concerns about customer service quality.
    • Declining Solvency Ratio: Bandhan Life Insurance reported a solvency ratio of 1.55x in FY 2025-26 compared to 2.69x in FY 2024-25. The metric has declined over recent periods, which could indicate a narrowing capital buffer and warrants closer monitoring alongside its business growth and claims experience.
    • Low Business Scale: Business volume remains below the industry median and falls short of Ditto’s ₹5,000 crore benchmark for established insurers.
    • Limited Rider Value: The plan lacks useful, value-for-money riders, reducing its flexibility compared with stronger alternatives.

Comprehensive Product Structure

Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus combines a wider range of built-in benefits and optional features than comparable Bandhan Life plans.

02

Stronger Rider Choice

HDFC Life Insurance offers critical illness, accidental disability, and waiver options, giving policyholders greater flexibility to tailor their coverage.

03

Business Scale

HDFC Life is the third-largest life insurer, with an annual business volume of ₹33,030.87 crore, which is significantly higher than smaller private insurers, reflecting its established market presence and larger business scale.

Cons of HDFC Life

    • Slightly Lower Solvency: HDFC Life's solvency ratio is below Bandhan Life's, although it remains well above the regulatory minimum of 1.5x.
    • Relatively Higher Premiums: Premiums can be higher than Bandhan Life's. However, the difference partly reflects HDFC Life's broader features, rider options, and claims track record.

Conclusion

Overall, HDFC Life leads Bandhan Life in insurer scale, product depth, rider options, and long-term track record. Bandhan Life offers innovative features, but its smaller scale and shorter track record make HDFC Life the more reassuring choice.

We recommend HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus, which remains one of the best term insurance plans for comprehensive protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which insurer settles term claims more reliably, Bandhan Life Insurance or HDFC Life?

Both Bandhan Life and HDFC Life report strong claim settlement ratios. However, HDFC Life has the advantage of a longer operating history, larger business scale, and greater claims-processing experience. Bandhan Life's recent claims performance is encouraging, but its shorter track record makes HDFC Life the more established choice for long-term term insurance protection.

Did Aegon Life become Bandhan Life, and does that change anything for existing policyholders?

Yes. Aegon Life was rebranded as Bandhan Life Insurance in 2024 after Bandhan Financial Holdings acquired the business. For existing policyholders, the change in ownership and branding does not by itself alter the policy's contractual benefits. Your policy continues according to its existing terms, although future servicing and communication will come under the Bandhan Life brand.

How does Bandhan Life's complaint volume compare with HDFC Life's, and why does that matter more than CSR?

Bandhan Life's complaints are higher relative to HDFC Life's and almost twice the industry median. Claim settlement ratio only tells you how many claims were settled, not how customers experienced the insurer's service. Complaint volume provides additional insight into servicing issues, grievance handling, and customer experience.

Does Bandhan Life iTerm Elite offer as many riders as HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus?

No. Bandhan Life iTerm Elite has a more limited rider selection, with its Accidental Death Benefit Rider being the key option. HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus offers a broader rider ecosystem, including critical illness and waiver benefits. This gives HDFC Life an advantage for buyers who want to customize protection around major health and income-related risks.

Is Bandhan Life term insurance meaningfully cheaper than HDFC Life for a 30-year-old buyer?

Bandhan Life iTerm Elite can offer slightly lower premiums than HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus for comparable coverage. However, don't view the difference in isolation. HDFC Life offers broader riders, more customization, and a longer operating track record. A modest premium saving may not justify giving up features and the confidence of an established insurer.

Which of the two is the safer choice for a 30-year term policy given Bandhan Life's shorter track record?

For a 30-year policy, HDFC Life is the safer choice from an experience and scale perspective. Bandhan Life's backing and recent performance are positive, but its track record under the Bandhan brand is shorter. Since term insurance is a long-term protection product, we prefer an insurer with established claims experience, deeper scale, and a longer operating history.

Does Bandhan Life offer a return of premium term plan like HDFC Life does?

Yes. Bandhan Life offers iTerm Return of Premium plan. The plan returns the base premiums, excluding rider premiums and other costs, with no capital appreciation. At Ditto, we do not recommend ROP options as they cost 60% to 100% more than comparable plain term cover and do not earn any interest on the money returned.

Is HDFC Life better than Bandhan Life for term insurance?

Yes, HDFC Life is the stronger insurer overall, given its larger scale, longer operating history, claims experience, solvency buffer, persistence, and wider distribution network. However, Bandhan Life is not a weak insurer or product. iTerm Elite offers thoughtful features such as special exit, cover continuance, flexible claim payouts, and women-focused benefits. For overall comprehensiveness, we still prefer HDFC Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus.
