Overview
Star Health recently launched Value Plus in May 2026, a new health insurance plan for individuals and families in India's smaller cities. But what if we told you it isn't actually a new product at all?
That's exactly the case with Value Plus. It's a packaged combination of Star Health's existing Super Star base plan and its Star Flexi add-on policy, sold together under a new name.
Compared to plans like Star Health Assure and Star Health Comprehensive, Value Plus focuses more on affordability, while the other plans offer different feature combinations and coverage structures.
This review breaks down where Value Plus fits among Star Health Insurance plans, its features, sample premiums, and operational metrics, so you know exactly what you're signing up for.
What Is the Star Health Value Plus Plan?
Star Health offers Value Plus at a lower price point for a specific customer segment. Here's a quick look at the basic details.

Star Health Value Plus Plan: Key Features & Riders
Since Value Plus runs on the Super Star base, it carries most of Super Star's core covers. Here's what's built in:

Cumulative Bonus
The plan offers an inbuilt bonus of 50% up to 100% of the SI. This is given only in claim-free years. In case you make a claim, the bonus will be reduced by the same percentage as it was increased.
Automatic Restoration
Your base SI gets refilled unlimited times in a policy year for any illness. Restoration is triggered on partial exhaustion too. This helps with multiple hospitalizations in the same year.
Ambulance Coverage
Road ambulance is covered up to the SI, while air ambulance is covered up to ₹5 lakh in a policy year. This coverage is offered only if the related hospitalization has been approved.
Premium Waiver
If the proposer, who is also an insured member, is diagnosed with a listed critical illness or dies in an accident, the premium for the next policy year is waived. This keeps the policy active for the rest of the family without an added payment.
Star Wellness Program
You can earn wellness points through the Star Health App (Play Store and App Store) and the Star Wellness App by staying active and completing health-related tasks. You can redeem these points for up to a 20% discount on your renewal premium.
Freeze Your Age
Your premium is locked at your entry-age rate, so it stays the same at every renewal. This continues until your first inpatient, daycare, or AYUSH claim is paid, or until you turn 55, whichever comes first. Once a claim is paid, Star Health switches to charging the premium for your actual age going forward. Other factors, such as insurer-wide repricing, regulatory changes, and medical inflation, can still affect premiums.
Value Network
Value Plus runs on a curated value network of hospitals rather than Star Health's full network. Use a listed hospital, and your claim is settled without any copayment. If you take treatment outside this list, a 15% copayment applies to the admissible claim amount.
Riders Offered
- Premium Return: If you don't file an inpatient claim for 5 consecutive policy years, Star Health refunds your entire first-year base premium. This rewards you for staying claim-free, on top of the cover you already have.
- Consumables Cover: This paid add-on can cover non-medical items like gloves, masks, syringes, and PPE kits.
- Health Booster: For every block of 7 consecutive claim-free years, Star Health adds another 100% of your base sum insured. This stacks separately from the yearly cumulative bonus, giving long-term policyholders a larger cover over time.
- Sum Insured Multiplier: On 2-year and 3-year policies, you can combine your annual sum insured across the full policy term to cover a single large claim. This helps if a hospitalization in a later policy year costs more than that year's individual sum insured.
You can also add optional covers like Stay Fit (gym access), Mamta (women's wellness), Param Seva (senior citizen wellness), depending on your needs. If you’re looking for alternative plans, you can refer to our guide on Star Health Insurance plans for family.

Star Health Value Plus Sample Premium and Long-Term Discounts
Please Note: A stands for adult and C stands for child. The premiums are calculated for healthy individuals residing in Delhi (110010). These values are indicative and may vary based on age, location, sum insured, chosen riders, and medical history. You can visit the official website or contact Star Health Insurance customer care for an accurate quote.
Zone-Wise Premium
Star Health calculates your Value Plus premium based on the zone your city falls under, both when you buy the policy and at every renewal. Cities are grouped into three zones: Zone A has the highest premium, while Zone C is the cheapest.

Value Plus offers some long-term discounts:
- 2-Year Policy Term: Get a 10% discount on your second-year premium.
- 3-Year Policy Term: Get a 12.5% discount on your third-year premium.
Star Health Performance Metrics
When evaluating an insurer, look beyond premiums and features. Metrics like the Star Health insurance claim settlement ratio, incurred claims ratio, complaint volume, and network hospitals provide a broader view of the insurer’s performance.

Pros and Cons of the Star Health Value Plus Plan
What Works Well
- Sum insured options up to ₹25 lakh, competitive for a budget-first plan.
- Useful inbuilt benefits like automatic restoration, cumulative bonus, and the wellness program.
- Freeze your age keeps your premium steady for years, unless you claim or turn 55.
What Falls Short
- The 15% copayment outside the value network hospital list is a real cost if your preferred hospital isn't on it.
- Being a brand-new launch, Value Plus doesn't yet have its own multi-year claims track record separate from Super Star.
- The plan has a room rent limit of up to ₹5,000 per day, which can lead to proportionate deductions if the bill exceeds the limit.

Conclusion
Star Health Value Plus is a decent option for buyers who want coverage at a lower premium. Features like freeze your age, automatic restoration, and Health Booster look attractive on paper. But the lower premium comes with a trade-off. The 15% copayment outside the Value Network can raise your out-of-pocket cost during a claim.
If you're buying health insurance for the first time, compare Value Plus against plans from other insurers too, not just on premium. Ditto's guide to the best health insurance plans in India can help.
If you already hold a Star Health policy, switching to Value Plus purely to save on premium may not work in your favor. Staying with an established base plan like Super Star or Comprehensive usually makes more sense, since coverage quality matters more than short-term savings. Before you decide, check whether your preferred hospitals fall under the Value Network, and read the policy wording carefully.
