This guide covers HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro's features, riders, insurer track record, and whether the plan suits your family's long-term protection needs.

What Is the HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro?

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro (UIN:101N193V01) is a non-linked, non-participating individual pure term insurance plan and the successor to Elite Plus. With its enhanced features, it now sits closer to the more feature-rich flagship HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus.

Key Features & Riders of the HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro

    • Terminal Illness Benefit: If the life assured is diagnosed with a terminal illness before age 80, HDFC Life pays up to ₹2 crore from the policy cover after diagnosis is confirmed. Two doctors must certify the condition, stating that the life assured is not expected to survive beyond six months.
    • Life Stage Benefit: You can increase your sum assured at key milestones, subject to limits. You can add 50% for marriage or a home loan, and 25% for each child, subject to maximum limits. You must be under 45 when exercising this option and request the increase within 6 months of the event. The benefit applies to the first and second child, allowing a 25% sum assured increase for each event, capped at ₹25 lakh per event. Marriage and home loan events allow a 50% increase each, capped at ₹50 lakh per event. The total increase across all eligible events is capped at ₹1.5 crore.
    • Smart Exit Benefit: The Smart Exit benefit lets you exit the policy and receive back the premiums paid, subject to conditions. You can use it after 25 policy years, but not during the final 5 years. The policy must run for at least 31 years, and the benefit is unavailable if you choose the return of premium option.
    • Instant Payout Benefit: The Instant Payout benefit provides ₹5 lakh within 1 working day of claim intimation after you submit the required documents. A 1-year waiting period applies. The remaining death benefit is paid after claim approval. If the claim is rejected, the ₹5 lakh may be recovered from the nominee, subject to policy terms.
    • Spouse Cover: Eligible policyholders can add spouse cover at inception, with the spouse's entry age between 18 and 65 and an age gap of up to 10 years. Cover is capped at 50% of the primary life cover or ₹1 crore, whichever is lower. If the primary spouse dies first, the nominee receives the payout and future premiums are waived. This option activates only after the primary life assured dies.
    • Return of Premium (ROP) Option: If you choose the ROP option, you pay an additional premium on top of the base plan. If you survive until maturity, the policy returns 100% of the base premiums paid (excluding rider premiums and other costs) as a lump sum, without interest or gains, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
    • Health Management Services: These services aim to support prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery through features such as teleconsultations, wellness coaching, mental health support, second medical opinions, and care coordination.

Riders Offered

    • Critical Illness Rider: This rider covers 60 critical illnesses for up to 15 years, with a maximum cover of ₹1.5 crore, over and above the base cover. It has a 90-day waiting period and a 15-day survival period.
    • LiveWell Rider: It pays an additional lump sum if the life assured dies due to an accident, provided the death occurs within 180 days of the accident. Rider premiums cannot exceed 30% of the base policy premium, subject to policy terms.
    • Income Benefit on Accidental Disability Rider: If the life assured suffers total permanent disability due to an accident, this rider provides a monthly income equal to 1% of the rider sum assured for 10 years. The maximum rider cover is ₹2 crore, and the rider remains valid for up to 40 policy years, subject to policy terms.
    • Health Plus Rider: This rider covers major and minor cancer for 5 policy years, with a maximum cover of ₹50 lakh, over and above the base sum assured. It has a 180-day waiting period and a 7-day survival period. For a valid minor cancer claim, future rider premiums are waived for 3 years, after which payments resume.

Note: At Ditto, we recommend the Critical Illness (CI) and Waiver of Premium (WOP) riders because they address major health events that can disrupt your income and finances. However, the plan does not offer the WOP rider, and not all riders mentioned in the brochure are currently live, which is a limitation to consider.

Cons of the HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro

Background Image

01

Limited Terminal Illness and Life Stage Benefits

Terminal illness cover is capped at ₹2 crore, while life stage increases are capped at ₹1.5 crore. This may be modest for HNIs with ₹5 crore or more of cover.

02

Spouse and Education Limitations

Spouse Cover is not concurrent insurance for both spouses and includes the same death-event exclusions. Education Income is capped at ₹10 lakh, which may be inadequate for rising education costs.

03

Premium Break Is a Deferral

The Premium Break option gives you temporary payment relief, but deferred premiums must eventually be repaid. It is not a premium waiver.

04

ROP Option Has an Opportunity Cost

You receive base premiums back, but the money does not earn investment returns. At Ditto, we don't recommend ROP plans because they cost 60% to 100% more than pure term plans and don't provide any returns.

Conclusion

On riders, minimum cover, and income eligibility, HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus is the broader and more accessible product. Elite Pro suits high-income individuals seeking higher coverage amounts at better pricing.

Elite Pro joins other plans targeting high-income earners, including TATA AIA Maha Raksha Supreme Select, SBI Life Smart Shield Premier, and IndusInd Nippon Life Super Suraksha Elite.

At Ditto, we do not recommend Elite Pro primarily because it lacks a Waiver of Premium (WOP) rider, does not offer a dedicated housewife solution, and has more feature and rider volatility than Supreme Plus.

If you prefer HDFC Life term insurance plans, we recommend Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus, which remains one of the best term insurance plans in India for comprehensive protection and customization.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro a good term insurance plan to buy in 2026?

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro is worth considering if you need high life cover and want more flexibility than a basic term plan. It offers features such as Smart Exit, Instant Payout, and terminal illness protection. However, compare its premium, features, riders, and insurer strength before choosing it. If you are applying as a Non-Resident Indian (NRI), full medicals are mandatory, and video medical examinations are currently not available.

Does HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro pay an immediate amount to my nominee before the full death claim is settled?

Yes. The Instant Payout benefit provides an accelerated claim payment of ₹5 lakh within 1 working day after claim intimation and submission of required documents, subject to applicable conditions. A 1-year waiting period applies. Once the claim is approved, the remaining death benefit is paid. If the claim is rejected, the advance may be recovered from the nominee.

Can I pause my premium payments temporarily under HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro if I face a financial setback?

Yes. The Premium Break benefit allows eligible policyholders to temporarily defer premiums while keeping their life cover active. For women, the benefit can be used after two completed policy years for pregnancy or the death of a spouse. For other situations, standard eligibility conditions apply, including the applicable waiting period and other policy terms.

What is the minimum annual income required to buy HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro?

The minimum income requirement is ₹10 lakh. Income is assessed along with factors such as age, occupation, education, existing insurance, and financial stability. Higher coverage generally requires higher and well-documented income.

Can I exit HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro early and get my premiums back through the Smart Exit benefit?

Yes, but Smart Exit comes with specific conditions. You can exercise it after completing 25 policy years, but not during the final five years. The policy must have a minimum term of 31 years. The benefit is also unavailable if you select the return of premium option.

How does HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro compare with HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus for high sum assured cover?

Both plans offer substantial life cover, but Supreme Plus generally offers a broader feature set and more customization. Elite Pro has moved closer to Supreme Plus with features such as Smart Exit, Premium Break, and Instant Payout. For high-cover buyers, compare the premium and specific benefits rather than choosing solely on the maximum sum assured.

What is HDFC Life's claim settlement ratio for term insurance plans like Click 2 Protect Elite Pro?

HDFC Life reported a 99.72% individual death claim settlement ratio for FY 2025-26. While this indicates strong claims performance, CSR should not be the only factor you consider. Also evaluate the amount settlement ratio, solvency, complaints, product features, and the insurer’s overall financial strength before buying a long-term term insurance policy.

Can women get a premium break for pregnancy or spouse's death?

Yes. After completing 2 policy years, female policyholders can defer premiums for 12 months during pregnancy or after their spouse's death, while keeping the policy active. You can use the benefit multiple times, with a 2-year gap between breaks. For other reasons, the standard premium break rules apply, including the 5-year waiting period.

What tax benefits can I claim on term insurance premiums and benefits?

Term insurance can offer tax benefits under the applicable tax regime and conditions. Eligible premiums qualify for deductions under Section 123 (previously Section 80C), while qualifying health-based rider premiums may be eligible under Section 126 (previously Section 80D), both under the old regime. Death benefits from qualifying life insurance policies remain tax-exempt under Section 11, previously Section 10(10D).

What discounts are available with HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro?

HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Pro offers a high sum assured and discounts for salaried customers. The first-year high-cover discount is 7% for regular pay and 10% for limited pay, while eligible salaried customers can receive a 7% first-year discount. The plan also offers alternative ongoing lifetime discounts of around 0.65% to 1.85%, depending on the premium payment term and discount option selected. The exact discount depends on your eligibility and chosen policy structure, so check the final quote before purchasing.
