Manipal Cigna Health insurance plans

ProHealth Plus

ProHealth Plus is a great policy. It covers most bases. It doesn't have egregious conditions, it pays for emergency treatments when you're abroad, offers cover for maternity related expenses and even reimburses you for outpatient consultations (upto 2,000). The only caveat - It is a fairly expensive policy.

View Policy

ProHealth Preferred

Prohealth Preferred offers a whole host of benefits. It covers most bases. It doesn't include outrageous conditions. It even offers coverage for maternity. And it has low waiting period for pre-existing diseases. All in all, a solid pick, albeit very expensive.

ProHealth Accumulate

ProHealth Accumulate is a good policy. It covers most bases. It doesn't have outrageous conditions, it pays for emergency treatments when you're abroad. and offers cover for outpatient consultations. However considering they include the outpatient benefit, it's much more expensive than ProHealth Protect - another similar policy from the Manipal Cigna stable.

SecureHealth

ManipalCigna SecureHealth is the most basic plan in Manipal Cign’s table. However, it’s one of the few plans that’s available for people with disabilities and those affected by mental illness or HIV. It offers coverage of only up to ₹5 lakhs. It has restrictions on the kind of room you can pick. It has a co-payment clause. And there’s no bonus or restoration benefit. But as we already noted, while this is definitely not a comprehensive option, this is perhaps the only option available for those with disabilities or AIDS.

ProHealth Prime Active

ManipalCigna ProHealth Prime Active is a plan specifically designed for those with Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and Obesity. If are suffering from any of these pre-existing conditions then you’ll only have to wait 90 days (as opposed to 2 years) after buying the policy to avail coverage for complications arising out of said conditions. If not, then you’ll find that this plan is expensive and it’s not the most comprehensive product on the market.

View Policy

ProHealth Prime Protect

ManipalCigna ProHealth Prime Protect is the most affordable plan within Manipal Cigna’s stable. And its features are not half bad. Sure, there are restrictions on the kind of room you can pick and the limited bonus. But you can do away with these restrictions by buying specific add-ons. And when you do that, you’ll see that the plan is reasonably comprehensive. The only problem is - Manipal Cigna’s claim settlement ratio isn’t all that great.

LifeTime Health

Manipal Cigna LifeTime Health is the most expensive plan in Manipal Cigna’s stable and it comes with two variants: India and Global. The Global plan covers treatments both in India and abroad, while the Indian plan is limited to domestic treatments. Both variants are extremely comprehensive and offer add-ons like critical illness rider, OPD cover (for outpatient consultations) and Woman+ where women get coverage for screening tests like Mammograms and PAP Smears. However, the only caveat is that this plan is expensive.

LifeTime Health Global

Manipal Cigna LifeTime Health is the most expensive plan in Manipal Cigna’s stable and it comes with two variants: India and Global. However, the only caveat is that this plan is expensive.

ProHealth Protect

ProHealth Protect is a good policy. It covers most bases. It doesn't have outrageous conditions. It pays for emergency treatments when you're abroad. The only caveat? They'll make you wait 4 years before covering complications arising out of pre-existing diseases (like diabetes).

Super Top-up

Manipal Cigna Super Top Up plan is a pretty decent plan with very few restrictions. And while it does not offer a disproportionately large cover (as the plan comes with a maximum cap of 30 lakhs), it still offers you a bonus of 5% each year and you could take your sum insured to about 45 lakhs if you wait long enough.

ProHealth Premier

This is for the Ultra rich. No, seriously. It offers a gigantic cover of 1 Crore. It pays for regular outpatient consultations when you visit the doctor (up to 15,000), has relatively low waiting period for your pre-existing diseases. And it also provides International coverage. It truly is one of a kind.

ProHealth Select

ProHealth Select is an economical option. However you do have to make sure you pick a room whose rent doesn't exceed ₹3,000. Because if you don't, you might end up footing a good part of the bill even with insurance. So do read more below.

ProHealth Prime Senior Classic

Manipal Cigna Prime Senior is a plan that’s only available for individuals aged between 56 and 75. On paper, it has many restrictions including restrictions on the kind of room you can pick (only a single private AC room), a co-payment clause where you’re expected to pay 20% of the bill and limited pre/post-hospitalization care. The upside is that if you’re a senior citizen and you have few options available, this could be a decent plan to consider since it has limited waiting periods for pre-existing diseases, add-ons to upgrade your room and remove that pesky co-payment clause.

ProHealth Prime Advantage

ManipalCigna ProHealth Prime Advantage is a comprehensive plan that sells at a very reasonable price. In fact, it’s much like ProHealth Prime Protect - a slightly affordable plan from Manipal Cigna. The only difference here is that you get Unlimited Restoration benefit and an OPD cover. Is the extra price worth it? Well, that depends on your budget. However, one thing you should note is that Manipal Cigna’s claim settlement ratio has declined in the recent past.

Manipal Cigna Health insurance claim process

Manipal Cigna claims can be of different types based on the hospital in which you are getting the treatment. If it’s part of Manipal Cigna's network hospitals, you can get a “Cashless claim” in which insurance company directly pays the bills to the hospital. But if your choice of hospital is not part of their network, then you have to pay the bills and apply for reimbursement claim. Here’s a brief process for both types of claims:

Cashless Claims

Inform the Hospital Desk

All network hospitals have an insurance desk. You can submit your policy copy (even soft copy works), ID proof, initial diagnosis report and the insurance desk will request the insurance company for “pre-authorization”. In case of planned treatments, you need to do this process 2 days before hospitalization

Insurer’s decision

Based on the provided documents, insurance company approve the claim and the hospital will start the treatment and they will co-ordinate with insurer for the treatment costs. In case of Cashless claim rejection, you can still go ahead with the treatment. In this case, you will need to pay the bills initially and can file for a reimbursement claim later

Discharge

If your cashless claim is approved, at the time of discharge, the insurance company will do the final settlement with the hospital and once that is sorted, you are good to go.

Reimbursement Claims

Inform the insurance company

For any planned treatments, you need to inform the insurance company 2 days before hospitalisation. In case of emergency, you can inform within 24 hours of admission. Insurance company will acknowledge the intimation.

Hospitalization

You need to submit a insurance claim form along with original copies of hospital bills, doctor consultation reports, and diagonstic reports.

File the claim

Within 30 days post discharge, you can initiate the claim online or at any of the registered offices of the insurance company. You need to fill a claim form and attach all the reports and bills.

Insurer’s decision

Based on the claim form and submitted documents, insurance company will settle the claims as per policy terms and conditions.

Manipal Cigna Health Insurance Renewal

Firstly, if you’ve purchased the policy online, you’ll always receive an intimation e-mail from the insurer around 30 days before the renewal date. The e-mail will have a renewal link that will directly take you to the page where you can make the payment and check policy details. And it’s done. You’ll receive the policy document via e-mail.

However, in case you choose to do it on your own, here’s what you need to do:

Visit the website

Visit the Manipal Cigna website and then go to the Renewal section here.

Enter details

You’d be asked to provide your current policy number which you can find in the policy soft copy. You may as well be asked to enter your mobile number, email ID, Date of Birth or policy expiry date.

Review and edit the policy details

Next, you’ll be able to see details of your new policy and the renewal premium you need to pay. Also, you’ll be given the option to make some changes related to sum insured, existing covered members, etc.

Complete the payment and it’s done

Once you confirm the details, you’ll be directed to the payment gateway. Once the payment is complete, you’ll receive your new policy soft copy via e-mail.

Few things to consider when renewing your Manipal Cigna health insurance policy

  1. If you want to increase your Sum Insured, now is the time. You can’t do it anytime during the year.
  2. If you didn’t make a claim in the past year, make sure you have been given a no-claim bonus if your policy offers it.
  3. If you want to add members like your spouse or kids, you have the option to do so only at the time of renewal. So do give this a thought.
